This post will cover how to set up an R notebook. I discussed the benefits of using notebooks in a previous post. More information can be found here.

Requirements

Jupyter and a current R installation

Installation

To install from source for Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) you need zmq development headers.

	sudo apt-get install libzmq3-dev

Then start R in the same terminal and install the following packages:

	install.packages(c('rzmq','repr','IRkernel','IRdisplay'),
	                 repos = c('http://irkernel.github.io/', getOption('repos')),
	                 type = 'source')
	IRkernel::installspec()

Running

Open a Jupyter notebook from the command line

jupyter notebook

Then click the New dropdown and select a new R Notebook
